Educational fly casting resources and programs available to BUFF members:
BUFF CASTING INSTRUCTORS have completed a BUFF fly casters instructor course, and certification examination (written, oral and casting) administered by Fly Fishers International Certified Casting Instructors. They have demonstrated proficiency in fly casting and instruction of fly casting, and they periodically share their expertise with the club membership through the programs listed below, as well as other education and outreach offerings. Our certified casting instructors are Tom Scheer, Jim Vota, Gary Begley, and Steve Walker. If you are interested in becoming an instructor, click here for more details.
SPRING CASTING TUNE UP offers the opportunity for BUFF members to tune up their cast with BUFF casting instructors available to offer demonstrations, suggestions, and guidance if desired. The Spring Tune Up is offered on an early-spring evening, with notification of date by email.
BUFF FLY CASTING CLASS is offered annually to all BUFF members. The class will place specific emphasis on the 4 parts of a basic cast and the 5 essential principles of casting. The casting sessions are designed to provide the information, demonstrations, and one-on-one instruction necessary to become a proficient fly caster. The class is presented on three warm-weather Sunday afternoons, in sessions lasting 3-4 hours each. The class is open to all levels of casters. Dates will be announced by e-mail to all members.
FLY CASTING SKILLS DEVELOPMENT Fly Fishers International has designed a program to challenge casters to accomplish a series (bronze, silver, and gold skill sets) of commonly used casts at their own pace, leading to progression of casting proficiency. BUFF casting instructors offer facilitation and certification of the challenges. Details of the program are found here on the FFI website.
