TREASURER - Louise Goldsberry
BUFFER - Mike Bryant - needs
articles by June 25, hopefully will get articles for AuSable trip, Penn's
Creek, upcoming trips., Would like a write-up on monthly meeting program and
dinner. Needs financial report e-mailed. He is looking for
something on education. Mike ask that Bill forward and article on the
Mad. He has small blurb about Tie and Lie - west being cancelled in
July. He has small blurb from Jorge about Mad River break-ins.
Query for upcoming events and general interest stuff. Mike wants to
update calendar.
WEBSITE - Joe Panfalone - needs
articles. We are getting approximately 100 hits a day which is slow, but
probably down because it is summer.
CONSERVATION - Bob Goldsberry -
Stream monitoring had to be postponed because of high water. We received
a thank you letter from the Clermont Soil and Water Conservation District
regarding clean up of the Little Miami River. Dean Frazier, the new
Conservation Officer, needs to be reached for updating. The Board
decided to split the revenue from the monthly meeting raffles for conservation
revenue/general fund purposes and have our main fund raiser be handled by Dean
Frazier at the February Sport Show. The monthly raffle
prizes are to be purchased as follows: three months worth from Adrien
Outfitters, three months from Anglers Outfitters, three months from Delemere
and Hopkins and three months from Mar River Outfitters if they want to
participate. Hopefully the shops will discount some
quality merchandise for us. Louise Goldsberry motioned that we
adopt this new strategy using upgraded raffle items and Tony Kalbli seconded.
The motion was approved. We will also have additional fund
raisers as events dictate, i.e. Red Lose's fly fishing equipment to be
auctioned for the Mad River Conservation per Red's instructions. Jim
LeBlond and the President of NKFF, (Joe Melching?) are going to inventory
Red's equipment and decide on auction proceedings. The Board left it up
to Jim's discretion, depending on what Red has, to work out a plan with NKFF
or just let NKFF take care of the donation. Tony Kalbli is donating a
Cabela's Stow Away Combo Rod, Reel, Line and Case for a value of $180 and an
additional 3/4 wt. Disc Drag Cabela Reel and Line with a value of $135 to be
auctioned at our first meeting at the Clarion in October. Tony has two
conditions for the donation: 1. The proceeds are to be entirely
for conservation fund and 2. tickets are to be sold $5 each and 5 for
$20. Steve Groome discussed the fact that last year's approved
conservation donations had not yet been made. Louise will be cutting the
checks as soon as possible to split the $619.75 encumbered to date between the
Mad River TU and the AuSable Restoration Project. It was
reiterated that the plan formerly adopted was to disburse 80% of the
conservation fund at year end and hold back 20% for emergency.
EDUCATION - Ed Jones, not
present, no report. Bob Goldsberry interjected that the Boy Scouts are
anxious to set up their day of instruction/education before mid July.
Dave Uckotter has equipment and will try to get 8/10 volunteers pending a
fixed date.
PROGRAMS - Steve Groome -
reported that the June program on stream safety by Tom Jones was well
received. Dave Uckotter remarked that Max Close from Miami Valley Fly
Fishers has approached him about a joint meeting using Jim Teeney possible on
Nov. 12, Jan. 14 or Feb. 11. Steve will follow up.
TRIPS - Joe Guenther, not
present, no report
RAFFLES - Bob Jones, not present,
no report. Tony Kalbli will advise Jonsey of our decision to upgrade
raffle prizes, splitting proceeds, etc. as above.
GENERAL TOPICS - Jim
LeBlond discussed the NKFF map books re our markup and ordering of same.
It was decided that we would order 20 to sell, but we will not mark them up
any longer. July meeting will be at Pattison Park and August meeting is
a covered dish family picnic on Saturday, August 4 at Stone Lick Park.
Jon Kinnard will scout out an appropriate spot and talk to the rangers.
We reaffirmed cost of dinners at new Clarion location as $8 reserved and $10
without, noting that we must really stress RESERVATIONS NECESSARY AND YOU NEED
TO SHOW UP IF YOU MAKE A RESERVATION. Clarion must be notified first this Monday
morning. The Deerfield closet was cleaned out tonight and equipment
taken home. Dave Uckotter has some of the items for the boy scout day.
Joe suggested putting our budget (condensed) in the newsletter so the
membership can discern the magnanimity of our operations. Tony Kalbli
suggested we consider using some of our reserves to get a professional 4 panel
display board for the BUFF Membership purposes. This suggestion is being
considered. Lastly, the budget discussion was finalized. The
conservation line item 4 for $100 for display was approved and was the
remainder of the budget from the June meeting. Lora Kalbli
motioned that the Board adopt the remaining budget, Joe Panfalone seconded and
the motion was approved. It was decided to contract with LeRoy
Hyatt for the Sports Show if he will sign on for remuneration of $850 for
everything except hotel and food. We will also ask Bob Fountain to
conduct another casting class at the Sports Show since he was so well received
and interest was high.
Meeting Adjourned
Respectfully Submitted
