February 18, 2004 B.U.F.F. BOD Meeting

 

Present: Bryant, Guenther, Dressman, Panfalone, Hogue, Kennard, Howell, D & J Hampton, Prince, Baker, West, Lilly, Haynes, Mackey, LeBlond, Boude, D. Jones, Shirley.

 

· Membership Health – Greg Johnson has had a liver transplant but had a clot in his stomach and was delayed going home.   Merrel Ludlow had emergency surgery. It was discussed whether to send flowers or a gift certificate and since both members are quite active it was decided to give each one a gift certificate from Bass Pro to give them incentive to get fishing quickly.

· February Program Critique – very favorable, fly tying and knots seemed to be the most popular.  It was felt the video before dinner did not work as well as a specific time does without any other interruptions.  It gave an evening to socialize.

· 2004 Budget Planning – Mike Bryant will send out email in two weeks and they are to be filled out and returned quickly to be ready for the March meeting.

· Banquet Update – Patti Howell passed out a brochure from Turkeyridge Lodge for a family membership ($1500 value) to be auctioned at the Banquet.  154 tickets have been sold.  Patti is giving two tickets to fly shop owners only.  She asked for volunteers to move things from her house to the Banquet – Jim LeBlond, Dave Jones, Bob Mackey, and Nan Shirley agreed to help her.  Mike Bryant was volunteered to MC.  Jim & Jeanie LeBlond will do the Children’s raffle.  Don Hogue will take program to printer.  Jim LeBlond asked if a last minute email can be sent to members to remind them to get tickets or give last minute donations.  Nan Shirley will do donation letters.

· Planning meetings – Mike Bryant said the FFS critique will be done in March.  In April he will set up next years programming meeting.

· Education – Ken West said the Fly Tying class has been arranged and each class will be on a specific fly.  He needs volunteers to help with the class. 
Lou Haynes reported FF101 is set to start March 4th.  He feels there will be 30 plus participants to as many as 60.  This is open to all members, the staff of Hopewell Jr. High and Tom Dressman has some scouts coming as well.

Jon Kennard said the new beginning casting classes will begin Saturdays in May and again in July, each being four weeks.  A new location will be determined.  Dave Uckotter will lead the instructors.  Jim LeBlond is working on whether to have an intermediate class as the schedule is very tight – he will work on this.

· Upcoming Trips – Joe Panfalone would like to do a power point presentation of day trips – April, Mad River; May, Brookville; June, OH Brush Creek; July, Twin Creek stream clean-up; Aug, Little Miami float trip; Sept., Columbus – Little Darby; Oct., 2nd Mad River trip.  Don Hogue has the Elkhorn trip on June 2nd.  Patti Howell has 25 members signed up for Arkansas.

Joe Panfalone commented that the current membership is very active participating in trips- a discussion – then a motion was made by Joe Panfalone that any person going on a BUFF trip must be a paid club member or a member of NKFF.  Ken West seconded.

Jim Hampton asked if pictures could be displayed before dinner meetings, Mike Bryant suggested articles/slide shows posted on the website and said the members reports of trips at the dinner meetings was very successful.

· CFR Update – Debbie Hampton reported she needs help with fund raising stating that to sponsor one woman costs $750.  She is looking into grants and charitable trusts.  Joe Panfalone suggested putting information on sponsorship on the website.

· FFS Comments - Mike Bryant said there were many unsolicited comments saying how great our club is.  Tom Baker was told how much the dollies, to help them move in an out of the show, were appreciated.

· Membership Report – Dave Jones reported 252 members, eight new members at the FFS and six renewals.  Two dropped off.

· Treasurer’s Report – Don Hogue gave his report – see attached.

· Communication – Jon Kennard announced the BUFFER closing date for March will be the 23rd of February.  He needs articles.  The Lie and Tie East will not meet in February or March.  A discussion began about putting Thank You notes on a website folder  

· Education – Ken West has more dates to add to calendar.  He has a contract with Mason at $3.00 a head.

· Conservation – Tom Dressman is still in the process of researching.

· Jim Boude was introduced as the member taking over the Hart Show from Jon Kennard.

·  As an ending to the meeting Joe Panfalone complimented Mike Bryant on his first year as President – that new members are giving new fire to the organization and for all to give Mike a hand for his leadership.
